If cigars are the soul of flavor, then the humidor is the vessel that protects it.

Since the 1990s, my grandfather has introduced me to Cuban cigars. With my grandparents—both cigar lovers—I learned to nose the aroma, read the sheen, and study the veins of the leaf. I dug into cigar culture—from regions and rolling to aging—and fell in love with the ritual. Early on I realized a simple truth: great cigars need great storage. Over the years—between family collections and gear friends handed me to “check”—I’ve handled and tested countless cigars and humidors. For me, the two have never been separate choices.

I didn’t start out doing recommendations. What pushed me into testing were my friends’ constant complaints:
— “The cigar was fine, but two weeks in the box and it lost its character.”
— “The ‘climate control’ looked great on paper, but the swings were huge and the rebound was slow.”
— “The hygrometer never reads right—too wet one day, too dry the next.”

Instead of letting them keep stumbling, I decided to test everything, systematically, and share clear, decision-ready conclusions. In 2020 I launched Plush Cigar with a promise to review from a set-up perspective—cigar × humidor. By 2025, I’m 40, and that promise still guides everything I publish.

How We Test (Cigar × Humidor, Evaluated Together)

• Real-world, long-term use: unboxing → calibration → empty vs. full load → seasonal temp/RH swings and rebound curves → energy draw and noise → seal integrity and odor transfer.
• Set-level matching: the same cigar stored in different humidors/climate cabinets—tracking flavor retention, cracking rate, draw feel; the same humidor with different humidification methods—measuring stability and upkeep.
• Head-to-head + tiered picks: apples-to-apples comparisons within a price band, plus tiered recommendations by budget—who it’s for / who it isn’t / what to buy / why.
• Repeatable data: RH/°F variance, time-to-setpoint (rebound), enclosure leak rate, sensor error, and odor dissipation timelines.
